Ezra LeBank (ENGLISH)
Ezra was born in 1985 on Cerro Gordo Mountain outside of Cottage Grove, Oregon in the US. He completed a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy at the State University of New York at Purchase, completed a Masters of Fine Arts Degree in Playwriting at Smith College, and holds a Diploma in Commedia Dell'arte from Ars Comica in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
Ezra is the Head of Movement and Associate Professor of Theatre Arts at California State University, Long Beach. He was awarded the 2015 Research and Creative Activity Impact Accomplishment of the Year Award. He has taught at The Juilliard School, Purchase College, Smith College, The University of Montana, and Vassar College. He teaches and performs across the world including recent workshops and festivals in Sweden, France, Poland, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Russia, Ireland, England, Scotland, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Israel, Estonia, Canada, Malaysia, Australia, and across the United States. He is recognized as a specialist in Acrobatics, Biomechanics, Contact Improvisation & Clown. His book CLOWNS: In Conversation with Modern Masters is published by Routledge, UK.
He is the founder and director of Bossy Flyer, where he creates and tours original acrobatic and physical theatre. His acrobatic theatre show Flight played Off-Broadway at the Barrow Street Theatre in 2016 where the New York Times called it "Ingenious." Flight won the CRITICS CHOICE AWARD at the 2017 San Diego International Fringe Festival, and was named by the San Diego Critics Circle as one of the Five Best Touring Shows of the Year in San Diego for 2017. Flight was also nominated for BEST SHOW and BEST FAMILY show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and has received numerous five star reviews, Top Picks, and Best of Fest accolades. Other original shows include Extinguish, Fresh Air, Lemon Boots, Alice's Wonderland, Elements, The History of a Hand, and many others.
Ezra is the resident Movement Director for the California Repertory Theatre, and has directed, choreographed, and coached over 100 theatre productions including work with South Coast Repertory Theatre, Montana Repertory Theatre, the Wooster Group, PUSH Physical Theatre, and AWOL Aerial Dance Theatre.
He has been a featured instructor at the Israel Acrobatics Convention, Nordic Acro Festival, Philly Take Flight Festival, New York Acro Festival, AcroLove, Divine Play, MOVE Copenhagen, Helsinki Acro Week, Estonia Acro Festival, Contact Festival Freiburg, West Coast Contact Improv Jam, and the Poland Contact Festival.
